The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested one more police officer in connection with the alleged fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others in 2004, officials of the agency said. The CBI on Saturday evening arrested Police Inspector of Special Operation Group, Gandhinagar, Bharat Patel in the case. He was produced on Sunday before the court, along with suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Tarun Barot, who was also arrested on Saturday.
The bench asked the petitioner to withdraw the petition and termed it dismissed as withdrawn.
The Gujarat high court on Thursday granted another three months' time to the Central Bureau of Investigation to complete its probe in the case of Sadiq Jamal, who was killed in an alleged fake encounter in 2003. "Looking at the satisfactory progress of the investigation, CBI is hereby given further three months' time and directed to complete the probe by December 31, 2012," ordered Justice M R Shah on Thursday.
